Welcome to the Sts. Peter and Paul Chapel Home Page. The Chapel is located east of Iowa Highway 1 between Mount Vernon and Solon in Johnson County, Iowa.

Our chapel is a small church which was built (as a Catholic church)  in 1916.  As the years went by, the size of the parish diminished and Sts. Peter and Paul, along with several other rural churches, was closed by the diocese.  In order to prevent the church from being destroyed, the Sts. Peter and Paul Historical Foundation was created to renovate, maintain and administer the facility.

The Foundation rents the chapel and reception hall for weddings and related events.   This website provides an overview of the facilities - we hope that you will find it useful.

The church sits on a hilltop, and is visible from some distance away.   The rural setting is calm and peaceful, with no distractions from the noises of the city.

A closer view of the exterior.  The side entrance is a ramp which provides easy access for wheelchairs with and elevator to the chapel floor.

The steeple on the left contains a working bell, which the newlyweds are encouraged to ring after the ceremony to announce the start of their life together.
